1.5 days left in Vanuatu..

As you can see from the pic above... the weather was awful! Oh, they all said 'it will be drier on the north side of the island'.. what hokum! It was pouring for several hours!
Once on the wet beach the snorkel party went to release a Hawksbill turtle... which was cute.

He didn't mind the wet beach - if it weren't for the cyclonic weather it would be lovely !
But getting wet didn't matter to me either as I had a 22 metre dive to a wreck, my first dive in a couple of years, so it was my refresher course as well.

Unfortunately the red spots are because the side strobe failed :)

There were some biggish fish nothing huge.

But it was fun and a little nerve wracking at the same time...

Back on the beach it was time for lunch. The rain had largely stopped.
This is our host feeding leftovers to the cute fish!
As the weather cleared you could see the colour of the water showing up nicely..
And snorkel time! Fall asleep here if you hate fish pics!

They had some pretty good coral here.
Coral, coral, are you guys bored of coral yet?

And not as many fish as at Hideaway island, but still plenty!

Then as we dried off to catch our yacht back, yep, you guessed it, the clouds cleared up and beautiful hot sun appears..
Showing you just how blue the deep water is.
Back at Vila Chaumiere I ate a coconut crab for dinner - the world's largest crab, it is a land crab and the flesh has the subtle taste of coconut as it eats them on the beaches. Nothing but coconuts. It's giant pincers can break them - they way up to 4KG.
And while I eat the red stars are still there...
The next day, and yes I am rolling two into one entries as I am behind...
Off to the blue lagoon. It's a subtle mix of blue ocean and freshwater... lovely glow.

There's lots of holes like this scattered through ought  the Vanuatu islands - on Santo ( a northern island) they have many apparently.
Below is my driver these last few days, Justin.

 Back to the lovely flora!

On the way there is this lovely little spot of public beach, they are all over - the land here is for sale too!
Then a quick dash to the Mele Cascades - the only waterfalls here.

They are not that big but they are pretty. Long walk and my feet got soaked. Since I am flying to Melbourne this afternoon I will have wet stinking feet all the way!

And that was Efate, the main island of Vanuatu and the town of Port Vila, rushing off to the airport now at 1pm, I should be in Melbourne at midnight. It's 37 in Melbourne today, supposed to cool off overnight, I sure hope so!
